End of Semester Scrammble

As the semester is winding down and I have been balancing fulltime work, a 19 credit semester, 2 honors projects, 2 ASU101 sections that I teach, and a 60 pound puppy with too much energy I am finding that time is a resource I just don’t have enough of. The madness of senior year was not something I was expecting and as we make one last mad dash to the end of the fall semester the stress and anticipation for the semester’s end is in full swing.

Prioritizing time for assignments has been the struggle of my semester. Unfortunately I feel that tonight it will be my blogs that suffer the consequence of being late. This is because I made the mistake of taking a lab science in my second to last semester and it has been giving me a run for my money. I forgot how demanding a lab science can be and I completely forgot to finish that requirement when I first transferred to ASU.

My curiosity is if anyone else has been feeling the strain of the semester and to know how you are handling the struggles you are facing.

  1. I give you a round of applause for attempting that much in one semester. It is clear that from your previous posts that it was a difficult semester, but I believe that what does not kill makes you stronger. I am not as busy as you, but I still feel the pressure of the end of the semester. I am facing the struggles of making the last effort to make classes matter. Only a few more weeks and classes and you will be done.

  2. Anthony,

Let me just say, you are a rockstar. Seriously. You do so much for ASU 101 and the CPSCS and on behalf of myself and the other ASU 101 instructors, Thank You. After teaching the class last year vs this year, the organization of everything and flow worked really well - because of all your work putting the class together. I think we are all feeling the stress and the pressure of our final semester(s) and fighting the urge of senioritis. Just continue to work hard and break things down as much as you can. Focus on taking advantage of any small chunks of time you find to work on something or get some studying in. With all of the obligations you have, time is at a premium, and using it as best you can is super important. Also, make time for FUN events. You are a machine, and if you don't find fun things to give yourself some INPUT you're going to have less OUTPUT available. Making time for things to fill your tank becomes even more important the busier you get.

  3. Anthony, I totally can relate- I just turned in a late assignment also and feel so guilty about it, though I work 2 jobs and somehow find time for 18 credits. It isn't easy, though I will say if you're close to graduating, like me, it'll al be worth it very soon. In an unfortunate way, I'm glad I'm not the only one stressing about the conclusion of the semester, but we'll make it. We're almost done! Good luck with finals and finish strong!

  4. Hi Anthony,
I completely feel you! I'm not doing nearly as much as you are but the last few weeks have been a little crazy with finals and part-time work. I'm glad that the semester has come to an end and we can all relax a little! I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

  5. Luckily now the semester should be just about over. But yes I defiantly felt the strain. And many of my classes suffered as a result. My worst semester by far in my whole college career. But it's over and the break is just around the corner. Rest up over break and come back next semester and knock it out the ball park!

  6. Hey Anthony,
I know we just talked the other day, but I think that it is worth saying that you are very motivating. You have quite a bit on your plate and have completed things in a strong way. Thanks for the comments this semester. They were constructive and optimistic. I wish you all the best of luck next semester and I know that graduation in the spring will be a great accomplishment! Take care!
